Date Responded 08 June 2020

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

  1. Can you confirm the difference in the number of speeding fines given out in your county in February 2020 and April 2020
  2. Can you confirm the drop in speeding fines revenue in April 2020 compared to February 2020 in your region (i.e. the difference in the amount paid in speeding fines from February 2020 to April 2020)

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Fixed Penalty Unit of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held in part by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

  1. This information is not held.  Speeding fines are an outcome and we do not hold this information. I can however advise that the difference in the number of speeding offence tickets between the two months requested is 2470. (this however does not include any tickets issued by a Police Officer directly whether on scene or via post).  Just for clarity, this figure is a drop in number from February.
  2. This information is not held.  The payment of speeding fines can be done up 6 months after the date of offence so we are unable to provide a response as that information is not available.
