Last week Northumbria Police officers had a visit from two Newcastle Falcons players who were there showing their support for a retired officer battling breast cancer and to help her raise even more money for her cause.
Players Will Montgomery and Toby Salmon visited Blyth Police Station to hand over 30 tickets to support retired PC Claire Bradbury in her mission to raise funds and awareness after being diagnosed in September this year.
Claire, who turned 50 this year, worked at Blyth as part of the Neighbourhood Policing Team for 10 years before retiring after 30 years’ service, and has set up a Just Giving page to support the charity Breast Cancer Now.
Claire said: “Thanks to everyone who has donated to the cause so far, and a massive thanks to the Newcastle Falcons for helping me raise money and awareness so people can get the help they need when diagnosed.
“I’ve been blown away by everyone’s continued support and it really means the world to me and my family. We’re going to keep fundraising and doing all we can to help others like myself going through this.”
The donated tickets will be sold off to help raise money and Newcastle Falcons are also offering discounted tickets to all current and former members of the armed forces, emergency services and NHS for their home game against Jersey Reds on Saturday December 14.
Information about tickets can be found on their website.
The donation from the Falcons comes after a number of officers shaved their heads in support for Claire. The officers set out to raise £200 and their total now currently stands at over an amazing £2,600.
During their visit Will and Toby talked about how inspirational Claire and the team were and they were delighted to be able to help and show their support.
The Championship Cup clash is a 2pm kick-off, with the club once again extending it is thanks to those who provide such valuable service to our country.
