AIM OF POLICY: To ensure a record is kept of the Chief Constable’s delegated authorities.  

BENEFIT OF POLICY: To ensure consistency and continuity in service provision.  

REASON FOR POLICY: To delegate authority to appropriate levels within the organisation.

Certain police powers can be delegated from the Chief Constable to other members of the force. Northumbria Police ensures this information is recorded and details of delegates are held with the Command Secretariat.

This provides a framework to ensure clear governance and accountability for decision making whilst ensuring business is carried out efficiently and decisions are not unnecessarily delayed. 

Once authority has been delegated to a particular role/rank, this cannot be delegated further.
