Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
Please disclose how many complaints have been made against staff relating to either homophobia or transphobia since January 1 2016.
For each complaint, please disclose if there was an internal investigation carried out.
If there was an internal investigation, please disclose all internal reports/investigation summaries for that complaint. Please redact any aspect of that report - such as names, addresses etc - which would prohibit disclosure.
If there was an investigation, please disclose the outcome (NFA against the staff member, misconduct hearing etc)
Please then disclose if a criminal investigation was launched into that allegation.
After we sought clarity you advised that by ‘Staff’ you mean anyone employed by the force at any level, and by ‘complaints’ you meant formal complaints to our Professional Standard Department.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Professional Standards Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

The following information has been extracted from a ‘live’ database and may be subject to the addition and deletion of complaints, complainants and subjects after the initial extraction of data used for the purposes of this request.
Since 1st January 2016 to 21st March 2019, 11 complaints were made by a member of the public against Northumbria Police officers or police staff which allege homophobia or transphobia behaviour.
Allegations recorded as under the category ‘discriminatory behaviour’ were checked, a key word search was also conducted on the allegation summary to capture any outside of this category.
