Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:


Conducting a search of all complaints, classed under Type G (irregularity in evidence / perjury), made between 1 January 2011 and 1 January 2019;

  1. how many were sent for (or resulted in) a charging decision?
  2. How many resulted in criminal charges?

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Professional Standards Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.


The located information has been extracted from a live database and may be subject to the addition and deletion of complaints, complainants and subjects after the initial extraction of data used for the purposes of this request.  Also to note that during the time period requested there are allegations that are live and under investigation and may alter the results once the full investigation is finalised.

Two allegations recorded under ‘irregularity in evidence’ were sent for a charging decision.

None of the above resulted in criminal charges
