Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
You asked:
1. The number of criminal investigations and subsequent prosecutions of police officers for murder, manslaughter and acts of violence against a suspect or other detainee in police custody carried out by the force.
In your response please provide:
a) The number of criminal investigations carried out between January 1 2019 and December 31 2019 inclusive.
b) The number of investigations which led to a charge and how many of these led to a conviction.
Please indicate in the response:
c) Where the case was withdrawn or did not proceed.
d) Whether the investigation related to a police officer from this force or another force.
Please also provide:
e)The number only of prosecutions and those which led to convictions for 2018 (without the additional detail).

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention. To note – we are interpreting your request as asking question 1 for the time periods 2018 & 2019. Points a – e are being taken as in relation to point 1.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Professional Standards Department of Northumbria Police.
I can confirm that the information you have requested is not held by Northumbria Police. There have been no such instances at point 1 and therefore points a) – e) are not applicable.
