Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

I would like to request any information on a case that was reported on 1st June 2020. It concerned three men (two aged 19, one aged 18) who posted a picture mocking the death of George Floyd. They were arrested for a hate crime, but released on bail.

If possible, I would like to know if it went to trial and the verdict if there was one.

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

The Media Team have confirmed that their previous release remains up to date.  The case has yet to proceed.

Releases such as those made previously on this subject were made by the Media Team in the public interest.  Further updates may be disclosed in the future, should it be deemed in the public interest, by a formal press release.
