Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

  1. How many people were charged with possession of a bladed article or possession of an offensive weapon in public in Newcastle city centre in 2018 and (so far) 2019.
  2. The location (street) of the incidents.
  3. The property description of the weapon.
  4. The age of the person charged.

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

To provide a response to this submission searched were carried out for the number of disposals issued for possession of a bladed article or offensive weapon between 1st January 2018 and 31st August 2019 for Newcastle city centre (E6).

To fully answer this FOI each disposal and associated custody / crime and incident was then viewed to retrieve the data needed to answer the questions posed.

The data has been provided in a disassociated order to avoid exemption being applied.
