Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

A  list of any reports made to Northumbria Police or a summary of any investigations conducted by Northumbria Police into the theft of human or animal bones (this definition extends only to skeletal remains) from 2008 to the present day

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

A search has been carried out using the class ‘body parts’ and in ‘scientific equipment’.  There were two results relevant and they are as below.

2009                                                                                                                                       

Person enters premises as trespasser and steals from within, makes off unseen. (2 bones).

2017                                                                                                                                       

Clinical support specialist had a femur bone taken, this is a medical aid used for her work
