Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

1. The number of crime reports Buckfast Tonic Wine was mentioned in between 16 Feb 2020-16 Feb 2023 in your area.

2. Please specify how many were violent crimes and how many alcohol-related crimes there during this time frame were overall.

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

1. One mo text mentioned the word 'Buckfast', the suspect was not recorded as being under the influence of drugs or alcohol and this was not a violent offence.

2. There were 168,448 offences in this time period recorded as violence against the person. There were 45,580 offences in total in this time period where the offender was recorded as being under the influence of alcohol.
For clarity, of the 168,448 offences of violence against the person, 27,252 were recorded where the suspect was under the influence of alcohol.
