Corrosive substances seized - 449/18

Date Responded 18 May 2018

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

Could you please detail the number of corrosive substances you seized in or near schools, broken down by primary or secondary school?

(if you are unable to qualify the word "near" please provide data for seizures in schools only)

Please provide figures for the past four calendar years, broken down by year.

If possible, please provide a breakdown of the ages of the person found to be carrying the corrosive substance. Eg, xx number of 15 year olds. xx number of 17 year olds etc.

On the 15/05/18 you then changed your request to read:

Please detail the number of reported ‘crimes’ involving corrosive substances in or near schools/colleges.

If you are unable to to find responses for  "near" you may omit it.

Please provide figures for the past four calendar years, broken down by year.

If possible, please provide a breakdown of the ages of the person found to be carrying the corrosive substance. Eg, xx number of 15 year olds. xx number of 17 year olds etc.

In Response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
