Date Responded 17 June 2021

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

1. Stats from the Central Area Command level regarding the number of domestic abuse related offences reported in 2019 and 2020 with a breakdown by gender, age and ethnicity. Could you please provide information about both incidents of DV and also crimes flagged as DV, as separate figures.

2. Stats from the Central Area Command level regarding shoplifting offences from 2019 and 2020.

3. Stats regarding both ‘Mental health’ and ‘mental health related’ offences from the Central Area Command level from 2019 and 2020. Relating to this query, please could this data relate to mental health incidents, including detainments under mental health act, rather than notifiable crimes.

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you with the following caveats noted:

• One crime may have multiple victims, and as such the number of victims may not match the number of incidents or crimes.

• The way in which we record mental health incidents changed in April 2019, as such there is a notable disparity between the count of incidents before and after this point.
