Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

  1. During 2018 how many people classed as IC1/IC2 (White - North European and White - South European combined) were arrested (charged or not) by officers of your force area for the following: a. Breach of the peace. b.Hate Speech specifically against disability, race, religion, sexual orientation or transgender identity.  c. Section 5 of the POA.
  2. During 2018, how many people classed as IC6, Arab or North African, were arrested (charged or not) by officers of your force area for the same:  a. Breach of the peace. b.Hate Speech specifically against disability, race, religion, sexual orientation or transgender identity.  c.Section 5 of the POA.

Please note that this data is collated using arrest records for people arrested in 2018 for offences relating to breach of the peace and public order.  We cannot provide a number for hate speech specifically as this information is not held, however we can provide totals for arrests for breach of the peace and public order that are linked to a hate motivated offence.
