Crimes on aircraft - 289/19

Date Responded 28 March 2019

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

1,On how many occasions in each of the last three calendar years – 2018, 2017, and 2016 – was a passenger arrested for an offence which took place on a plane during which they were drunk?

2. That would include offences of being drunk and disorderly; but also crimes like assault or racial harassment during which the convicted party was intoxicated. If there is more than one airport in your force patch, please provide separate figures for each airport.

3.Please also provide, if possible within time/cost constraints, a breakdown showing for each arrest:

Year

Airport

Nationality of convicted party

List of charges

If that list is not possible under time/cost constraints, a total number for each year and each airport will be acceptable.
