Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

1. How many people have been sexually assaulted, including rape, in your local authority area in the last four years?

2. How many people have been convicted of sexual assault, including rape, in your local authority in the last four years?

3. How many people have been sexually assaulted, not including rape, in your local authority area in the last four years?

4. How many people have been convicted of sexual assault, not including rape, in your local authority in the last four years?

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention. 

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is part held by Northumbria Police. 

The data is a count of all people who have been named as a victim in crimes which are classified as sexual assault. These crimes have been created between 01/01/2014 and 31/12/2017. Question 1 includes sexual assaults and rape.   Question 3 is sexual assaults only. This does not include all sexual offences - only those classified as a sexual offence where 'assault' is included in the offence description. 

With the above in mind, I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.
