Deliveroo Related Offences - 624/20

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

  1. In the 2019 calendar year how many crimes were logged by your force where Deliveroo was recorded as being an element in the offence. [Note: I would hope that this could be achieved by a computer search on the MO of crimes for the word/s ‘deliveroo', 'deliver roo'.]
  2. Please provide me with a table showing a breakdown of the crimes from Question 1 that are ‘linked’ to Deliveroo by its mention in the MO.
  3. Taking a start date of January 2019 please provide me with copies of the first 10 MOs that mention Deliveroo. [Note: To avoid falling into an exemption I am content for the names, ages, geography or any other detail to be redacted to allow for the disclosure of the incident and how it relates to Deliveroo.]

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.  However, the following caveat should be noted with regards to the information supplied below:

  • This data has been provided via an MO keyword search, the terms used were "deliveroo" and "deliver roo".  Only exact matches of these terms will be returned by this search.
  1. A total of 3 crimes were logged specific to your request.
  2. The breakdown of those crimes is as follows:

3.The MO’s of those crimes reported above are as follows:

  • When working as a deliveroo driver, victim stops at traffic lights and is approached by two mopeds, one of which had two males on board and the other a single rider, one of the males threatens the victim with a knife before demanding the victim gives them his motor bike. Victim then makes off and escapes from males.
  • 2 x unknown male offenders enters store with 'deliveroo' bags; select and conceal items inside bags; exit store not paying; stealing same.
  • IP is a deliveroo delivery driver. IP parks at roadside to make a delivery. He appears to have been followed by four males on two motorbikes. These males have approached the IP and assaulted him with a hammer and poles in an apparent attempt to steal from him, possibly his motorbike and/or mobile phone, which was on display at the time.
