Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
You asked:
In the last three years (from the 1st of January 2017) for the area covered by the forces:
- How many reported dog thefts have there been?
- How many arrests have been made in connection with dog thefts?
Could you break the data down month by month please?
In Response:
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
With regards to the data supplied the following should be noted:
- The period "last three years (from the 1st of January 2017) " has been taken to refer to the calendar years 2017 2018 and 2019.
- This data has been provided by a search for the property type "dog". As such, if a dog has been listed as "pet" or as a specific breed it would not be included within this count.
- Arrest data has been based on the time the arrest happened. As such, the count of arrests may not relate to crimes within the stated month.
- The count of arrests as above is based on arrests with a connection to a theft; the arrest may be for another offence (eg, assault)
If you decide to write an article / use the enclosed data we would ask you to take into consideration the factors highlighted in this document so as to not mislead members of the public or official bodies, or misrepresent the relevance of the whole or any part of this disclosed material.
I am able to disclose the located information to you, bearing the above in mind, as follows.
