Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

Between April 1st and July 1st 2020, how many domestic abuse cases received by your force were:
1. reported BY MEN where the alleged perpetrator is FEMALE
2. reported BY MEN where the alleged perpetrator is MALE
3. reported by WOMEN where the alleged perpetrator is MALE.
4. reported by WOMEN where the alleged perpetrator is FEMALE.
5. Between April 1st and July 1st 2020, how many MALE arrests were made on suspicion of domestic abuse of a FEMALE?
6. Between April 1st and July 1st 2020, how many MALE arrests were made on suspicion of domestic abuse of a MALE?
7. Between April 1st and July 1st 2020, how many FEMALE arrests were made on suspicion of domestic abuse of a MALE?
8. Between April 1st and July 1st 2020 how many FEMALE arrests were made on suspicion of domestic abuse of a FEMALE?

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted within Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

The below should be noted when reviewing the information provided:
- "Reported by" has been taken to relate to "being the victim of"
- The counts provided refer to cases wherein any of the parties involved were male or female; this means that some crimes may have been included on multiple counts (eg, if a crime had both a male and female offender, along with a female victim, it would be included in both 3 and 4 - as such the counts provided here do refer to a count of events, rather than individuals.
- This information has been based on a count of crimes with the DV flag, rather than incidents, as we typically do not hold personal data for incidents.
