Date Responded 17 June 2020

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

Could you please provide me with the following information for April and May in 2019, and April and May in 2020? It would be much appreciated if you could break down the figures by month.

  1. The numbers of reported incidents tagged as domestic abuse in nature, broken down by Home Office offence classification. I am particularly keen to know the numbers of homicides. I understand domestic abuse-related incidents cover all reports, not just those in which an initial investigation concluded a crime was committed.
  2. The number of people arrested for crimes that took place in April and May with a domestic abuse tag, broken down by offence classification.
  3. The number of people charged with crimes that took place in April and May with a domestic abuse tag, broken down by offence classification.

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as attached.
