In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as attached.

To note this request has been aggregated with your previous one, FOI 1071/18, due to time/cost constraints.

The data has been taken from the central database using the incident table for the dates provided by you in your request, where the domestic violence flag has been applied.  The incidents were then read through to identify those incidents where an officer had attended on the same day.  It should be noted that some victims may request an attendance on a later date, and that some incidents are reported so late in the day that an attendance on that day is not possible.

The following context has been provided by the subject matter expert in order to provide you further background on this topic. We ask that you give this full consideration before you use the raw data supplied.

We can confirm that while we do see an increase in the number of reports of domestic abuse during the summer months, there is no evidence to link these specifically to when England play. What we do know is that excessive alcohol consumption has been proven to be a factor in many cases.

We would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to protecting victims of domestic abuse and ensuring perpetrators are brought to justice. We have been absolutely clear that Northumbria Police’s number one priority is to protect those in our communities who are vulnerable and this work goes on unabated in the name of Sanctuary.

Anyone who is suffering such abuse or violence can have the confidence to come forward knowing that we will sensitively deal with their case. If you are a victim, our message is this – please come forward, we will support you.

If you decide to write an article/use the enclosed data we would expect that you to take into consideration the factors highlighted above so as not to mislead members of the public or official bodies or misrepresent the relevance of the whole or any part of this disclosed material.

With the above in mind please see the attached.
