Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

How many arrests were there for suspicion of drink driving by month from January 2010 to December 2017?

How many of the above were:

a. Released without charge

b.Charged?

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

The data was taken from the arrest tables in the central database where the suspect was arrested for one of the following offences:

  • Causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drink or drugs
  • Driving or attempting to drive a mechanically propelled vehicle whilst unfit to drive through drink or drugs (only to be used where it is unclear whether it is drink or drugs)
  • Driving or attempting to drive a mechanically propelled vehicle whilst unfit to drive through drink or drugs - Drink.

The charges include those people who were charged or issued with a summons or postal requisition.
