Date Responded 28 April 2022

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

Can you confirm the number of drug offences recorded in schools? Please give a breakdown for the following years, i) 2020, ii) 2021, iii) 2022 to the present date?

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you with the following caveats noted.

• The data has been taken where the offence type was drugs related and the location was one of the following: 'Classroom', 'Mobile classroom', 'Nursery school' or 'School premises'. The following location types were not included: 'College', 'Education centre' and 'University'.

• It should be noted that when using location types, the crimes may not have anything to do with the business carried out at the premise, rather it just occurred at that location type, for example, the crime may have occurred in the grounds during the weekend when the property was closed.

• The data is correct to 26 April 2022.
