Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

1. The number of crimes recorded by your force in 2020 AND between 1/1/2021 and 31/06/2021 in which the initial incident report mentions the word "e-scooter" or "electric scooter". Please note: this is where e-scooters are simply mentioned within the crime log rather than the focus of (or reason for) the offence.

Please provide a breakdown of these crimes including:

1. a) the month of the crime

1. b) the offence(s) recorded

1. c) the investigation outcome

1. d) a summary of the crime report describing the circumstances of the offence

 

2. Also, please provide me with the amount of e-scooters you have seized in 2020 AND between 1/1/2021 and 31/06/2021

1. Please note that searches were made on all crimes where either "e-scooter" or "electric scooter" was mentioned within the MO.  As with any keyword search, the search will only return exact matches within the Crime MO.  This does not account for differences in terminology and/or spelling used.  Also, we cannot search the crime investigation screens/additional information screens, if the terms are not used within the MO the crime will not be identified.  The MO search is limited to the first 242 characters of the MO, any information beyond that will not be searched.  Taking this into consideration please see the below:

Summary

2 U/K Offenders Enter Store, Selects 2 Electric Scooters From Display Then Exits The Store Making No Attempt To Pay And Both Make Off On Foot In U/K Direction.

2 Unknown Children On An Electric Scooter Have Stolen Planters Which Were Mother’s Day Gifts, Rode Off With Stolen Planters Without Offering Any Payment.

Group Of Youths Approached The IP, Started To Shout Abuse At The IP Whilst Making Off On An Electric Scooter.

Two Unknown Offenders Approach Victim On Electric Scooters Before Leaning In Towards Victim And Grunting Causing Victim To Jump Backwards And Fear For Personal Safety.  No Injury Caused.

IP Receives Calls From U/K Offender From U/K Number; Offender States They Are A Police Officer & Is Aware IP Has A Stolen Electric Scooter -  Fear Harassment.

IP Receives Calls From U/K Offender From U/K Number; Offender States They Are A Police Officer & Is Aware IP Has A Stolen Electric Scooter -  Fear, Mal Comms.

Offenders Tried To Grab The IP’s Scooter Whilst Threatening The IP.  IP Let Go And They Rode Off With The Scooter. 

IP & Friends Followed By Offenders On Electric Scooter Who Shout Anti-Semitic Abuse Causing Distress.

Known Offender Takes Victim’s Electric Scooter Takes And Makes Off Stealing Same.

Named Offender Asks Victim For A Turn On Electric Scooter.  Offender Rides Off And Does Not Return On The Now Stolen Scooter.

Offender Rides In Front Of IP's Vehicle On E-Scooter On Road Narrowly Avoiding IP.  Offender Then Shouts Abuse At IP Causing Alarm And Distress To IP.

Unknown Offenders; Ride Past Victim And Family On An Electric Scooter; Shout Abuse Causing Victim To Feel Alarmed And Distressed.

Unknown Offenders Approach Victim And Ask To Have A Look At Electric Scooter.  Victim Declines And Offenders Draws A Bladed Article., Does Not Directly Threaten The Victim And The Victim States That They Did Not Feel Distress.  All Parties Walk Away From Each Other Calmly.

U/K Offender Deliberately Drives Electric Scooter At IP Who Is Partially Blind; Causing IP To Stumble And Grab Hold Of Scooter Drivers Hand.  Offender Says They Are  Allowed To Ride On Path And Drives Off.

U/K Offender Is Riding Electric Scooter At Speed Before Being Approached By Victim And Asked To Reduce Speed.  Offender Becomes Verbally Abusive To Victim; Offender Rides At Speed Towards The Victim Before Stopping And Punching Victim To The Face Causing Injuries.

Unknown Offender Riding An Electric Scooter On A Public Footpath Shouts Abuse As They Pass IP. 

Unknown Offender Enters Store; Selects Electric Scooter And Leaves Store Without Offering Payment.

Unknown Offender Climbs Fence Into School Grounds; Removes 2 Electric Scooter Than Were Chained Together Make Off From Scene.

Unknown Offenders Armed With A Knife; A Brick And A Glass Bottle Chase Unknown Person Who Is Riding An Electric Scooter.

Unknown Person Enters Station On E-Scooter Before Taking It Onto Platform.  Offender Throws E-Scooter Onto Tracks. Offender Then Returns And Removes E-Scooter From Tracks And Leaves Station.

Unknown Person Whilst Going Past Victim On An Electric Scooter Shouts Racial Abuse Causing Upset; Alarm And Distress.

Victim Using Electric Scooter When The Named Suspects Have Approached And Taken Phone And Electric Scooter From Them.

Named Offender is Known To IP; IP Feels Intimidated Into Passing Over Electric Scooter As Offender Offers To Pay For It; IP Knows Offender Will Not Give Them Payment.  Offender Then Takes Sum Of Cash From IP And Leaves Scene.

 

2. In 2020 we have uplifted 1 E-scooter for S165 RTA (No Insurance/Driving otherwise in accordance with a licence) during June.

During the period 1 January 2021 to 31 June 2021 we have uplifted 12 E-scooters for S165 RTA (No Insurance/Driving otherwise in accordance with a licence):

Please note that it is a decision for the seizing officer if they will summons to court for the offence .
