Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

For each of the following financial years 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18* please provide the following information: 

  1. Total number of disability hate crime cases recorded by your force.
  2. For each yearly total in question 1, please state the total number of cases in which the/a victim was a) under 16, b) 16-17, c) 18-25, d) 26-40, e) 41-60 and f) over 60.
  3. If recorded, please state the total number of disability hate crime cases carried out in/around school property (please include all educational establishments from early years to FE colleges).  
  4. Please state the total number of disability hate crime cases carried out in/around university property. 

*If the information is only available in calendar years, please use calendar years to the nearest date possible.

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention. 

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held in part by Northumbria Police. 

Firstly the below should be noted: 

The included data is a count of all crimes where there is a disability hate crime flag attached. 

The second table is broken down by victim age; crimes where there is no victim, the victim is a business or the victim's age is unknown have all been counted separately.  

Q3 - those crimes in Q1 where either location field contained:

- COLLEGE

- SCHOOL PREMISES

- EDUCATION CENTRE 

Q4 - those crimes in Q1 where either location field contained:

- UNIVERSITY 

Information regarding the time period 2017/18 is currently being collated, therefore at this moment in time we are unable to supply a response to that part. 

With the above in mind I am able to disclose the located information to you as attached.
