Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

Please provide the below information for 2019 so far, 2018, 2017 and 2016.

  1. How many murder investigations were launched by calendar year?
  2. How many resulted in arrests?
  3. How many remain unresolved?
  4. In how many of these investigation did police bring in a psychic or clairvoyant for assistance?
  5. Where possible please indicate which investigations (by name of victim) psychics or clairvoyants were used.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Crime Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

To note – cases where a suspect has been arrested but a charging decision is awaited, a person has been acquitted of the offence at Crown Court, and where a person admitted  to an offence where no body has been found have been included at this point.
