Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

  1. How many incidents of illegal dumping of rubbish (also commonly known as fly dumping or fly tipping) occurred within the jurisdiction of your force’s authority each whole year for the last five years (i.e. 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019)?
  2. How many incidents of illegal dumping of rubbish (also commonly known as fly dumping or fly tipping) occurred within the jurisdiction of your force’s authority have occurred since the beginning of 2020?
  3. How many arrests were made by your police force for illegal dumping of rubbish (also commonly known as fly dumping or fly tipping) each whole year for the last f years (i.e. 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019)?
  4. How many arrests were made by your police force for illegal dumping of rubbish (also commonly known as fly dumping or fly tipping) since the beginning of 2020

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that some of the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

To be clear the information provided below is instances recorded by Northumbria Police.  You may wish to contact the local authorities to get a more accurate picture of such instances.

Incidents of illegal dumping were looked for using the final incident code for environmental incident types.  There were no incidents recorded as such however there is a crime of 'Depositing, causing the deposition or permitting the deposition, treating, keeping or disposing of controlled (but not special) waste in or on land without a licence.'  These crimes were searched for  the relevant time periods and the results of those are as below.
