Knife crime incidents - 366/18

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

1. The number of recorded incidents relating to Knives or other sharp implements.

2. I would like this report broken down into months for 2016, 2017 and to date in 2018.

Clarity was sought in relation to question 1 and you said ‘I am looking for is crimes involving knives or sharp weapons.’

In Response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

 Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

 Data has been collated through a search of all crimes created between 01/01/2016 and 15/04/2018 where the weapon attached to the crime is one that is sharp and capable of piercing the skin. Weapons included are in accordance with Home Office counting rules for Knife Crime.
