Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
You asked:
1. The number of investigations opened into drug-related deaths at licensed premises. Please provide figures for each calendar year from 2013 to 2017.
If possible, please also provide the following information:
2. The number of police hours spent investigating drug-related deaths at licensed premises. Please provide figures for each calendar year from 2013 to 2017.
In Response:
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held in part by Northumbria Police.
There is no data flag for drug related deaths so the incident data has been filtered to show closing codes of 'sudden death' and then further filtered to show those that occurred at the licenced premise types, (Public House, Hotel and Night Club).
The details of the resulting incidents have been read through to identify those that were drug related, this includes the involvement of prescription drugs and possible suicides.
With the above in mind, I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.
