Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

  1. The number of arrests made by Police relating to the illegal sale of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) across all police forces in your area from 01 January 2016 to December 31, 2018 in data sets of years.
  2. The locations of each of the arrests grouped by landmarks.
  3. The ages of the defendants, suspects or person thought responsible in groupings of (13-17), (18-21), (22-25), (26-30), (31-40), (41-50), (51-60), (61

In Response:

The central database was searched for the following offences:

093/42 Supply a psychoactive substance.

093/43 Offer to supply a psychoactive substance.

093/44 Possess a psychoactive substance with intent to supply.

Only those where the psychoactive substance identified was nitrous oxide have been included.

We do not police by ‘landmark’ and accordingly we have provided down to the sector where each offence took place.
