Possession of Bladed Article or Offensive Weapon on School Premises - 1056/19

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

1. For the financial years 2017/18 and 2018/19 and 2019 to date, please could you provide me with the number of each of the following offences

Threaten with an offensive weapon on school premises

Possession of other offensive weapon on school premises without lawful authority or reasonable excuse

Having article with a blade of point on school premises

Threaten with a blade or sharply pointed article on school premises

2.In each case, the age of the person found in possession of the offensive weapon, the type of weapon and the outcome of the offence (where known).

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

It should be noted that in order to satisfy this request a search for all recorded crimes where the location type is either, school, classroom, nursery, etc was conducted.  This data has then filtered to include any crime with an offence description that related to possession or threaten with an offensive weapon, in addition to this we have also included crimes where the method has included a threat in the method means, where the weapon or instrument included an offensive or bladed article.
