Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

What has been the percentage increase of racist abuse on police officers and staff from 2016 to present

In Response:

Please note that we hold no information with regards to percentages, as specified by your request.

However, we are able to supply the number of recorded crimes for race motivated offences on officers and staff using the following criteria:

Offence codes 104/23 or 104/30 or 008/73 - all relating to assault on a constable

The ‘assault PC’ flag or ‘PC’ code in the method/means field of our recording system

Offences with the phrase racial in the description where the victim was shown as a number or Northumbria Police.  These have been reviewed to make sure that they refer to police staff/officers.

All offences with the home office code 008/74 - Assault or assault by beating on a emergency worker - of which there are none marked with a racial flag.

The results of those searches are as follows;
