Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

A.  The number of reports of shoplifting recorded by Northumbria Police in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 so far? I would like this broken down per month.

1. How many of these thefts were related to food and or drink?
2. How many of these thefts resulted in an arrest?
3. How many of these thefts resulted in a police charge?

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you with the following caveats:

• Data is effective up to 09/07/2020.
• In relation to food and drink, this been determined based on the item type being listed as "foodstuff".  It should be noted that this field is not always completed and as such there may be more incidents of this type than shown here.
• In relation to arrests, this has been read as "how many of these offences had at least one arrest associated."  There will be more arrests than are counted here; the number provided is the number of offences resulting in at least one arrest.
• In relation to police charges, relates to the prime disposal for that offence.
