Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
Number of reports of stalking in the following calendar years: 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018.
On the 20/06/19 you then contacted us ask “could I also have the number for 2012 - it was omitted in error.”
On the 21/06/19 you again contacted us to clarify: Apologies for the further clarification: It has been brought to my attention that an incident and a crime are different - (An incident is a record of contact made to a police force by an individual/member of public (usually via a 999 or 101 call) and a crime is where the threshold has been met for the police force to deem that a criminal offence has occurred as defined by law).
I only require the crime records.
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted within Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.
The data has been taken form the central database using the crime table where the following offences were taken into account:
Racially or religiously aggravated harassment or stalking without violence (introduced 2010)
Racially or religiously aggravated harassment or stalking (introduced 2010)
Stalking involving fear of violence (introduced 2013)
Stalking involving serious alarm/distress (introduced 2013)
Stalking without fear / alarm / distress (introduced 2013)
Please note the changes in the volume of stalking are due to improved crime recording practices where stalking crimes are now correctly recorded as a stalking rather than harassment.
With the above noted please see the below.
