Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

1) How many dogs did your Police force report as stolen in 01.10.2017 to 31/12/2017 ? (Month by month count)

2) For those dogs reported as stolen in 01.10.2017 to 31/12/2017, what breeds were they in each case?

3) For those dogs reported as stolen in 01.10.2017 to 31/12/2017, where were the dogs when they were taken? E.g. from their home, garden, outside a shop; etc.

4) For those dogs reported as stolen in 01.10.2017 to 31/12/2017, how many dogs were later recovered and returned to owner?

In Response:

 We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

 Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held in part by Northumbria Police.

 We are taking it that point 1 refers to dogs reported to the police as being stolen, and not how many police dogs were stolen as the wording of your request seems to infer.

 Data was collated searching all  crimes allocated between 01/10/2017 and 31/12/2017 with property associated which has been classified as 'animals.'

 Data was filtered for those where the property has been stolen or recovered and where the animals type is listed as dog. Each crime was reviewed to establish the breed of dog and where it was stolen from.

 With regards to question 4, although 7 dogs are marked as recovered, there is no information held as to whether they were returned to the owner.

 With the above in mind, I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.
