Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
I am seeking figures under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 in relation to thefts of luggage from Newcastle Airport. To that end, could you please provide information on:
1) The number of reports of thefts of luggage at Newcastle Airport for each of the last five full calendar years (ie. 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017). However, to be more specific, I would like to include:
Bags / baggage
Musical instrument cases
2) In relation to the above, please provide a breakdown of the number of incidents that are suspected to have taken place each year specifically in baggage reclaim areas, if this information is held.
3) Again, in relation to (1) above, please indicate how many reports led to an arrest and, if possible, to court proceedings in each of the five years for which data is available.
4) In relation to (3) above, please indicate how many arrests were made of members of airport staff or contractors employed to work at the airport.
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.
The data was taken from the central database using all thefts with the location field populated with ‘airport’ to refine the data.
The MOs were read through to ensure that the thefts had occurred in the airport/airport grounds and the actual location recorded when mentioned. The data was further refined so that the specified items were the only ones that were included.
With the above noted we can respond as follows
