Trafficking Victims - 1298/19

Date Responded 18 November 2019

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

The number of British minors that Northumbria Police referred to the National Referral Mechanism as potential victims of trafficking following, or in association with, 'county lines' investigations within the first half of 2019 (1 January 2019-31 May 2019).

By 'minors' I mean under the age of 18. For the purposes of referrals to the National Referral Mechanism, this means being under the age of 18 at the time of potential trafficking/slavery, as opposed to the age at which they were referred.

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Safeguarding Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

During the period outlined above Northumbria Police referred a total of 5 minors to the National Referral Mechanism as specified by your request.
