Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

I am writing requesting details pertaining to the cost of the employment of police officers.

  1. What estimate the force have made of the total per capita cost of employing a police officer, including recruitment, training, equipment, payroll and any additional resources required.
  2. What estimate the force has made of the total cost of the first year police officer recruitment target set by the Home Office, and whether the funding provided through the spending review to the force meets that cost.

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Finance Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held, in part, by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

  1. Information not held. The Force does not have a per capita total cost of employing a Police Officer, including the categories specified.
  2. Funding is sufficient to achieve the first year target for Police Officer recruitment set by the Home Office.
