Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

Can you please provide me with the following information regarding your AFO's (Authorised Firearms Officers)?

  1. How many AFO's do you have in your force.
  2. How many female AFO's do you have in your force.
  3. Age groups of you AFO's.
  4. How many AFO's do you have in your force over the age of 50 and their ages.

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the People Services Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

The below response is based on the establishment headcount and includes all Inspectors, Sergeants and Constables within the Firearms Support Unit as of 30 October 2019.

  1. The number of Authorised Firearms Officers = 131
  2. The number of Authorised Firearms Officers that are Female = 10
