Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

1. The number of police recruits for your force in the 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18 (to date)2. The number of police recruits who failed drugs screening tests before employment in the years specified in question 1.

3. If possible, please give the drug(s) which were found in positive tests.

4. For the recruits who failed the drugs tests how many were

a) hired (if any)

b) charged, cautioned or otherwise dealt with according to police drugs procedures

For 4 b) please provide a break down of all outcomes, if there are any.

5. For the recruits who failed drugs tests please break down the roles for which they were applying.

 I define a 'police recruit' as anyone who has applied for a full or part-time role in your force. This includes PCSOs, police staff and other roles besides PCs and other police officer roles. If this data isn't available, please limit it to police officer positions only.

 Please break the answers to all these questions down by financial year.

 Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the HR Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

2. Within the financial year 2016 /2017, two applicants failed the pre-employment drug screening tests.

3. The tests showed positive for cocaine

4. a) None of the applicants were hired

b) The applications were rejected on the grounds of failing substance misuse test

5. One application for Police Officer and one application for Special Constable
