Date Responded 15 June 2018

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

Do you have a transgender equality policy document (or equivalent) in your force? If so can you provide me with a copy.

NOTE: By (or equivalent) I mean a document in your force that spells out what reasonable adjustments should be made to accommodate transgender staff within your force.

In Response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the HR Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is not held by Northumbria Police.

Currently there is no finalised/formalised ‘Transgender Equality Policy Document’ however a procedure is currently being considered and any subsequent document will be published into the public domain as soon as  practicable.

It should be noted that it is not possible to spell out specific ‘reasonable adjustments’, within this proposed procedure, or any other documents held by Northumbria Police. The requirement to make a reasonable adjustment relies on the ability of the Force to support any identified need and is based on the specific circumstances and needs of the individual in discussion with their line management.
