Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

  1. How many firearms police officers are employed full time in your force?
  2. Of these officers, how many have taken time off work due to stress from Jan 2019 to Apr 2019
  3. Of these officers, how many have taken time off work due to stress from Jan 2018 to Dec 2018.
  4. Of these officers, how many have taken time off work due to stress from Jan 2017 to Dec 2017.
  5. Of these officers, how many have taken time off work due to stress from Jan 2016 to Dec 2016.
  6. How many shifts have been lost to stress related sickness from Jan 2019 to Apr 2019
  7. How many shifts have been lost to stress related sickness from Jan 2018 to Dec 2018.
  8. How many shifts have been lost to stress related sickness from Jan 2017 to Dec 2017.
  9. How many shifts have been lost to stress related sickness from Jan 2016 to Dec 2016.

The response includes all Inspectors, Sergeants and Constables in the Firearms Support Unit. For the purposes of this request the following absence categories have been included:

I6 Post Traumatic Stress

I7 Stress

  1. As at 24th May 2019 there were 125 FTE officers working in the Firearms Support Unit.
  2. No officers took time off due to stress during 2019. (Jan – Apr)
  3. 2 officers took time off due to stress during 2018.
  4. No officers took time off due to stress during 2017.
  5. No officers took time off due to stress during 2016.
  6. N/A
  7. 24 operational days were lost due to a stress absence during 2018.

  11. Both officers were offered counselling support.
