Date Responded 09 November 2018

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

  1. How many officers (vehicles, armed police & PCSOs ) Northumbria Police had on duty in Newcastle/Gateshead on the day of the Great North Run 2018, and how many of them were there specifically to control the GNR?
  2. How much did the whole operation cost?

In Response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted within Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held in part by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

  1. Northumbria Police had on duty  in Newcastle/Gateshead 363 officers on the day of the Great North  Run 2018 and 22 PCSOs (over 24 hr period 07:00 – 07:00hrs). 57 were there specifically to control the GNR.
  2. The whole operation cost information is not held. Not all costs in relation to the Great North Run are necessarily “additional” costs to the force as officers will have been involved in planning or deployment in normal duty time. Normal duty time is not costed for specific events or deployments and so the whole operation cost is not held.
