999/101 Calls Received - 792/19

Date Responded 18 July 2019

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

For each of the Financial Years 2009/2010 until 2018/2019 could you please tell me the TOTAL number of 999 and 101 calls received by your Force. I do not require them to be broken down in any way, just a simple total number for each type per year will be sufficient.

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted within Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows with the caveat below noted.

Prior to 2011 we had the “Contact Management Unit” (CMU) as a separate department, they took away a considerable number of calls that pre their introduction in April 2007 used to be answered by the Contact Handlers, so their calls were no longer counted as Non-Emergency (now 101 calls).

In  January 2012 the CMU was then merged with the Control Room to become one department & the calls they used to answer became the Secondary calls.

With the above noted please see the figures below.
