Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

The number of ‘big cat’ sightings reported to Northumbria Police in 2018.

If possible, I’d be grateful if you could also provide any available details of these sightings, such as date, location and any comments recorded in the incident log.

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

Batt house road, Stocksfield, Hexham


Sighting of large cat in large field off Batthouse road. Reports it was black and larger and longer than a labrador sized dog. Seen two days ago. Caller has been in area since but no further sightings.





West lane, Killingworth, North Tyneside.


Concern regarding animal. Caller was leaving  workplace last night and saw a black panther walking through the grounds. She and another staff member saw this; and they are certain that is what it was.
