Date Responded 15 October 2020

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

Please could you tell me, up to and including September 21, how many of the fixed penalty notices issued by the force under the coronavirus health protection regulations:

  1. remained unpaid after the 28 day payment period
  2. are being formally contested
  3. have been rescinded on appeal to the force

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted within Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held in part by Northumbria Police.

I can confirm that 165 cases have been referred to Court for non-payment of Fine. We do not have the total number of those returned from ACRO as some may have been NFA’d, prior to court proceedings being instigated. We do not hold information as to contested cases.

You may wish to visit the NPCC and ACRO websites where further information can be found regarding Covid related information.
