Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

  1. How many fixed penalty notices (FPN) have been handed out since 2010 across SR postcodes to cyclists for "inconsiderate cycling" on pavements.(Schedule 3 and Section 51 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988)(Section 72 of the Highway Act 1835).
  2. If no FPNs have been issued, what approach is being used by Northumbria Police to deter cyclists from breaking the law.

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is not held by Northumbria Police.

  1. Our system can only search for a period of 6 years.  Searches made have revealed that there have been no such offences recorded by the police in the SR postcode.No information held.
  2. No information held.
