Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

  1. Please could you provide me with the number of fixed penalty notices issued for cycling on the footway (pavement) for each of the past three financial years (2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18).
  2. Please could you also provide me with number of people charged with dangerous cycling and careless cycling in each of the above years.

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Fixed Penalty Unit of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows


2015/16 – 0

2016/17 – 0

2017/18 – 2

2 Dangerous/ careless cycling fall under same offence code as above and the issue of a fixed penalty notice is the charge.  The figures are therefore as above.
