Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

Please provide me with the total number of reported occurrences of children (Persons under 18 years) reported missing to Northumbria Police within the Northern Area Command - (DD) North Tyneside locality within the last 12 months (06/06/19 to 06/06/20) categorised within your missing persons records as ‘In care / at risk’.

After we sought clarity you advised :

I can confirm my request relates to North Tyneside (DD) area only.

I confirm I seek the number of occurrences / instances not the number of children.

With regard to ‘in care / at risk’ I seek the number of missing childrens records within the relevant time period / locality above which Northumbria Police hold, which are marked as ‘In Care / At Risk’ by the submitting officer within each report.

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

As per our acknowledgement, this request has been aggregated with an almost identical submission recently received.  This is in line with time/cost restraints.

There were 946 occurrences of children reported as missing in North Tyneside between 06/06/2019 and 06/06/2020.  Though you just wanted the number of such occurrences, for context we can advise that this relates to 226 children indicating that some have gone missing on more than once occasion.

To note - all children that are reported as missing are clarified as at risk.
