Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

I note the following in the TechUK Report: Policing and the Internet of Things which states: 

"The vast amounts of data now generated online creates vast opportunities to anticipate risk, and predictive policing is already being trialled. Indeed, the Met police disclosed in December 2016 that they have actively been exploring the use of predictive policing, with trials of three predictive mapping companies between May 2014 and April 2015." 

"Advanced use of data - bringing together and analysing information from a number of sources - could help the police better prioritise resources and protect officers. Visualisation systems now exist that allow forces to minority and integrate a wide array of data streams, like transit maps, weather repots and crime statistics. Authorities can then look for patterns and trends." 

I kindly request the following information: 

1. Has your force trialled predictive policing and/or does your force intend to trial predictive policing over the next 24 months;

2. Does your force use predictive policing / predictive mapping software / hardware?

2.1 If yes, do you own and operate the software / hardware? Please confirm which company provides this technology and provide a copy for the most recent contract.

2.2. If yes, do you contract with a third party to provide predictive policy / predictive mapping in addition to or as opposed to operating the technology yourself.

3. Have you trialled or do you intend to trial, or do you use visualisation systems?

3.1 If yes, do you own and operate the software / hardware? Please confirm which company provides this technology and provide a copy for the most recent contract.

3.2. If yes, do you contract with a third party to provide visualisation systems in addition to or as opposed to operating the technology yourself.

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention. 

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the ICT & Crime Departments of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
