In Response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

The data provided is limited to searches we are able to carry out and our search method is explained below.

The central database was used to obtain all incidents where the word 'refugee' was in the first three lines of the description.

We are only able to search the first three lines of the incident description, if the term 'refugee' does not appear within these first three lines, it will not be included in the final dataset.  The same is true of the term 'hate crime'.

With the above noted the results of the searches we have been able to carry out are below:

2014 – 9

2015 – 15

2016 – 62

2017 – 51

2016 – 2

2017 – 1
